Enthusiasts anticipating the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait too much longer. An exciting playable preview is set to become available on January 7th, offering a sizable taste into the game's opening hours. Importantly, all save data earned within this demo can be imported directly into the main game upon its eventual debut.
Beyond Just a Simple Re-release: The Complete Reimagining
This project represents a ground-up reimagining of the landmark 2000 JRPG, originally titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from other series re-releases, such as the previously released HD-2D versions, this reimagining embraces a striking 3D visual presentation. Locales have been crafted to resemble intricate dioramas, with party members featuring a delightful chibi-esque look.
"Even with the previous version, the narrative was still exceptionally lengthy. So we came to a determination that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary gamers."
Significant Mechanical Changes & Modernizations
Square Enix has introduced several changes to streamline the original experience. This encompasses:
- Expedited Field Battles: Taking a cue from modern role-playing games, low-level enemies are now defeated instantly on the overworld map without initiating a separate turn-based battle sequence.
- Variable Battle Pace: Gamers have the option to accelerate battle sequences to quickly power through easier encounters.
- Expanded Vocation System: One brand new vocation was added for this reimagining. Additionally, party members now have the option to take on a second vocation, significantly enhancing customization depth.
Such refinements are aimed at address a key the 2000 title's most noted criticisms: its daunting length. That original main quest could easily require more than 100 hours to finish. The new version has been expressly structured to refine progression and cut down on perceived bloat.
