Miami put up eighty-six first-half scores versus the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat secured a crushing 146-114 win against the Grizzlies in their first NBA match after guard Terry Rozier was detained for alleged illegal gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also detained as part of a sweeping federal investigation into sports betting. Both men contest the allegations.

However, the Miami team were not distracted as they scored eighty-six opening half points to be ahead of Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the largest halftime lead in the team's 37-year history.

Adebayo top-scored with twenty-four points and later said Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Complete backing," Bam stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."

Heat coach Spoelstra added: "Terry is somebody who is important to everyone. He's had a real positive impact on our team.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he faces the situation."

Portland additionally won their initial match after the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Billups' non-attendance and leading the team to a decisive 139-119 win against the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Billups and his coaching style," Tiago remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events

Speaking about the arrests for the initial occasion, league head Adam Silver said he was "very upset" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and its fans than the integrity of the competition," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner further said an league probe into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he participated for the Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the betting companies," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were open regarding it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"Moreover 30 months later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance in this case between upholding rights and investigating."
