Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Mentioning Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she finds it inappropriate suitable to comment publicly regarding the Trump presidency, fearing it could intensify polarizing arguments and further divisions across the United States.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
In a recent interview, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, election after election, Hollywood stars have no real impact whatsoever on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she supported John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democrats and stating she recognized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
In 2015, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a disaster” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “because I think she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
The star was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the minimal impact public figures have over the public choices was highlighted by his election win.
“This upcoming term appears changed,” noted she of his leadership. “As he made his plans clear. We understood his record for four years. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
The actor is currently promoting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a new mother who deals with her mental health in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the film in Venice, Lawrence addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the conversations of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
The actor sought to redirect anger about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she said, seen by observers as a nod to the then-recent pledge supported by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to avoid Israeli film institutions.
Individual Insights
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her part in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in Die, My Love. While the director has rejected the narrative being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, Lawrence shared that she did relate to elements of her role’s experience after the birth of her youngest child, not long after filming concluded.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she explained, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I got on a medication called the prescription and I used it for 14 days and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also spoke of the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
