The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
